Description

Exo Terra Terrarium Substrate Forest Bark is a biodegradable, natural and sustainably manufactured terrarium substrate made from the bark of the Douglas fir. During the manufacturing process, the bark is tumbled in a drum during the production process to smooth out the individual pieces and remove dust. Subsequently, it is heat-treated to reduce contamination from bacteria.

The hygroscopic property of the bark makes the substrate particularly attractive for moisture-loving terrarium animals. The moisture is first absorbed and then released into the environment as required which ensures a balanced humidity level. The shape and size of the forest bark substrate are similar to what is seen in the wild and stimulate natural burrowing behaviour.

Instructions for use:

Spread a 3-5 cm thick layer of substrate on the terrarium floor. You can moisten the substrate to increase the humidity in the terrarium. Check the moisture levels regularly. Exo Terra Hygrometer is ideal to keep an eye on the humidity level.

Remove soiled pieces of substrate daily and replace with a little fresh substrate. For intermediate cleaning, rinse the substrate in hot water. Replace the substrate completely every 8 weeks or when necessary.
