Description

Pogostemon stellatus or star plant is a spectacular stem plant for large tanks. Whorled, fine leaves that are green to red-purple in colour add a splash of colour. However, it is demanding and requires a very good supply of nutrients, a lot of light and - most importantly - a constant supply of CO2. Pale leaves are a sure sign of acute nutrient deficiencies. Growth can occasionally stagnate even under very good conditions. Experienced aquarists will certainly enjoy this extraordinary beauty.

  • Light requirement: a lot of light is preferable
  • Optimal temperature: 24 to 28°C
  • Water values: soft to medium-hard
  • pH value: 5 to 7
  • Addition of CO2 and nutrients: an absolute must
  • Propagation: cuttings, division, separation

Note: The cups are grown in a laboratory. Aquatic plants from in vitro culture are grown in sterile conditions. They are therefore also suitable for sensitive animals such as dwarf shrimp and can be used immediately. With in vitro plants, there are no stowaways such as snails or parasites, and pesticides are also completely avoided.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
Since the star plant requires a lot of space, it is only suitable for large tanks. It can also grow emersed in terrariums but does not develop into its full glory there.
