Description

The JBL PlaCollect is a chemical-free planaria trap that catches flatworms (planaria) in fresh and saltwater aquariums.

Flatworms (Platheminths)
This animal class includes the unpopular planaria, which sometimes reproduce in large numbers in the aquarium and can then become annoying pests. They usually lead a hidden existence and only come out at night. After the planarian trap was inserted, some people were surprised at how many flatworms were at home in their aquarium! Since chemical agents against planaria mostly have undesirable side effects and are no longer freely available commercially, the JBL planarian trap is a very good alternative without harmful side effects!

Flatworms in the sea water
Flatworms in seawater can look very much like nudibranchs, but they can also be very problematic for corals if they take over and infest the corals. There are some that are extremely well camouflaged and cannot be found even at second glance. These include e.g. the Acropora flatworm, which can attack Acropora hard corals and leads to severe damage. By bathing the affected coral in an iodine bath outside the aquarium (2 ml / l Betaisadona), the flatworms become immobile and can be rinsed off with a powerful pump jet. Pseudocheilinus hexataenia is a recommended predator that also recognizes and eats clutches of worms.

Application
The PlaCollect is provided with some lining, e.g. JBL NovoTabs, equipped, connected with the enclosed suction cup and nylon strap and positioned in the aquarium overnight. The next day the trap is emptied and rinsed out. Since planarians lay their eggs in the substrate and also in silicone seams, mandatory adherence to remedies must be observed when hunting planaria! At different intervals, new planarians hatch from the eggs, which in turn lay eggs. Even if the trap contains few to no planaria, the procedure should be carried out for at least four weeks, or even longer.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
Planarians can quickly become a nightmare for any aquarist. The PlaCollect catches them quickly and effectively and puts an end to the horror.
