Description
The Crinum thaianum also known as the Thai onion plant or water onion, is an easy-care and highly adaptable bulbous endemic to Asia. The fast-growing plant can reach a height of up to 200 cm making it particularly suitable for larger aquariums with a water depth of at least 50 cm. This beauty from Thailand is perfect for the middle and background of an aquascape and perfers soft to hard water and medium to high light conditions.
The bulb of this delicate plant with its long wavy leaves should be only partially set in the ground (about ⅔). The lush green leaves grow in a jumble and continue to grow horizontally when they reach the water's surface. Fragrant white lily-like flowers may form on long stalks that grows out of the water's surface. Its shade-casting leaves are quite tough and are therefore avoided by herbivorous ornamental fish including perch.
Note: The plant reproduces by producing more bulbs attached to the mother bulb.
