Description
The Crinum calamistratum also know as the African onion plant, is an unusual and very unique looking aquarium plant. It has long and slender ruffled leaves that are dark green in colour. It is native to Cameroon, Africa, where it can grow up to 200 m! In an aquarium, however, this slow-growing plant can grow from 60 to 100 cm.
Although it is easy to care for, it needs a lot of room in the middle or background of the aquarium. It can be planted individually or in groups. It is advisable to provide a nutrient-rich substrate and to fertlise with growth-promoting CO₂. Because the plant is not readily eaten by ornamental fish, it is very popular with aquarists.
