The very easy-to-maintain Anubias barteri var. 'Barteri', the broad-leaved spear leaf, comes from Africa. The 20 to approx. 40 cm high plant is perfect for putting on roots or stones in the middle ground and tolerates soft to hard water.

The prototype of many variants is the broad-leaved spear blade Anubias barteri var. 'Barteri' from the jungle streams of Africa. The firm dark-green leaves of this slow-growing, robust and fairly undemanding aquarium plant are not prone to nibble by herbivorous fish. This Anubias does not need much light.

Anubias barteri var. 'Barteri' grows as a water lily plant. However, their rhizome (the green thick rhizome) does not always creep along the ground, but can sometimes go up in the air. The rhizome is not implanted in Anubias, because it can rot in the ground. This means that it is best to tie or stick the Broadleaf Spear Leaf onto an aquarium root or decorative stone. If you cover only the laterally growing roots with gravel or soil, you can also cultivate the Anubias on the ground, only the rhizome must definitely look out of the gravel or soil.

The 20 to 40 cm tall aquarium plant looks in the middle ground in high aquariums very perfect. The easy-care Anubias barteri var. 'Barteri' is not fussy about the water values and grows even under low light quite. Because of its bad taste, the Anubias is considered suitable for perch.

The propagation of the broad-leaved spear blade is as easy as the care: Cut a piece with 2 leaves off and bind it on. Finished.
